"Here is the kernel of the whole matter. We need not worry about
consensus, or reason, or opinion in matters of right and wrong. "The
Spirit of Christ is given to every man, that he may know good from
evil." Most of us know better than we do. As we discipline ourselves
in line with our knowledge, in line with the inner convictions of our
hearts, rather than the inclination to follow the crowd, we grow." -

Year," 26 October 1965, p. 7

"Let us remember that even though God had a foreknowledge of what
'would be' under certain conditions, it is not his will nor his desire
that vice, injustice, and crime, disobedience and intolerance and
bloodshed and war exist in the world. His purposes are to provide a
way where men may find happiness and joy, peace, now and forever.
Nevertheless, he will not interfere with the agency of men! But
fortunately, according to Mormon's teaching: '...the Spirit of Christ
is given to every man, that he may know good from evil;' and have a
'perfect knowledge,' whether it is of God or of the devil. (See Moroni
7:16.)" - ElRay L. Christiansen, "General Conference Reports,"

"In this conflict there are two influences that are brought to bear
upon him. On the one hand 'the spirit of Christ is given to every man
that he may know good from evil.' (Moroni
7:16.) This spirit is ever striving to lead us to God. And, on
the other hand 'that which is evil cometh from the devil, for the
devil is an enemy unto God and fighteth against him continually, and
inviteth and enticeth to sin and to do that which is evil
continually.' (Moroni
7:12) Thus, it will be seen that God is ever present to guard
and protect us and deliver us from all evil. He is unchangeable for he
has said: 'I am the Lord, I change not.' And then, too, Satan, with
unrelenting zeal is endeavoring to carry out his evil purposes in
leading men away from God and hence unto darkness and the bondage of
sin, and 'to do that which is evil continually.' He shows no signs of
reformation. The devil is absolutely incorrigible, and this is what
the criminologists sometimes overlook and blame to 'the unchanging
nature of human appetites.'" - Rulon S. Wells, "General Conference
Reports," April 1938, p. 69

"As members of the Church we are not just cut loose and left to shift
for ourselves in this world. That would be a terrible thing. We are
not left adrift. That constant spiritual guidance that we have in the
Church is a clear signal, if we live for it and if we follow it....
Inspiration can come, of course, from sources other than through the
Holy Ghost." - Boyd K. Packer, "Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled," [Salt
Lake City, Utah: Bookcraft, 1991], p. 240

"All of us have been endowed with a conscience, sometimes referred to
as the light or 'Spirit of Christ' (Moroni
7:16). Such power of feeling enables us to judge the goodness or
badness of things so long as we live righteously. But if we sin and
pollute our body, that power of feeling is numbed or lost completely,
and we are left to our own resources. One weeps over those who drive
the Spirit from their lives and who reach a state when they are 'past
feeling' (1 Nephi
17:45) because they lose contact with pure religion." - Carlos
E. Asay, "The Seven M's of Missionary Service," [Salt Lake City, Utah:
Bookcraft, 1996], p. 85

Here
is a prophet speaking: “… for every thing which inviteth to do good, and
to persuade to believe in Christ, is sent forth by the power and gift of
Christ; wherefore ye may know with a perfect knowledge it is of God.
“But
whatsoever thing persuadeth men to do evil, and believe not in Christ,
and deny him and serve not God, then ye may know with a perfect
knowledge it is of the devil; for after this manner doth the devil work;
for he persuadeth no man to do good, no, not one; neither do his angels,
neither do they who subject themselves unto him” (Moro.
7:16-17).
